Beatification of Pope John Paul II

"John Paul II, We Love You!"  way back in 1995 ito ang salubong ng mga Pinoy kay Pope last World Youth Day. i remember i was just in grade six kaya hindi pa kami nakasama sa mga delegate ng parish namin. Ngayon, on May 1...Pope John Paul II will be beatified, the final step before sainthood. The Vatican announced that the beatification ceremony will take place in Rome on Sunday, May 1. Beatification entitles a candidate to be referred to as “blessed” but not yet a saint. The date for the beatification ceremony, May 1, has been observed since 2000 as “Divine Mercy Sunday” by the Catholic church. The actual beatification ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m., Sunday, May 1, in St. Peter's Square.

Stabat Mater Dolorosa

Stabat mater dolorosa
juxta Crucem lacrimosa,
dum pendebat Filius.

Cuyus animam gementem,
contristatam et dolentem,
pertransivit gladius.

O quam tristis et afflicta
fuit illa benedicta
Mater Unigeniti.

Quae moerebat et dolebat,
Pia Mater cum videbat
Nati poenas incliti.

Quis est homo qui non fleret,
Matrem Christi si videret
in tanto supplicio?

Quis non posset contristari,
Christi Matrem contemplari
dolentem cum Filio?

ENGLISH VERSION

At the cross her station keeping,
Stood the mournful Mother weeping,
Close to Jesus to the last.

Through her heart, His sorrow sharing,
All His bitter anguish bearing,
Now at length the sword had pass'd.

Oh, how sad and sore distress'd
Was that Mother highly blest
Of the sole-begotten One!

Christ above in torment hangs;
She beneath beholds the pangs
Of her dying glorious Son.

Is there one who would not weep,
Whelm'd in miseries so deep
Christ's dear Mother to behold?

Can the human heart refrain
From partaking in her pain,
In that Mother's pain untold?
