Ladies' Market and Eat Together in Hongkong

After strolling along the Avenue of Stars, though we were so tired, we still went to Mongkok for the Ladies' Market. We took the MTR and took the Tuen Wan line in the Tuen Wan direction and got off at Mong Kok.

There are also many guesthouse located at the area.

Ladies' Market is a kilometer stretch of stalls selling bargain clothes, bags, shoes, souvenirs and more. Though its named as "ladies' market", do not be confused as they sell stuffs here for men and women.

It's like Divisoria. So many items to buy but they are expensive. Always ask for discount as sellers tends to give you a higher price. Before buying, ask the others stalls for the price for you to have an idea and choose the cheapest. Most of the local sellers doesn't speak English. They just communicate via calculator.

When hunger strikes you, there are many eateries to choose from.

We chose to eat at a local stall called Eat Together.

The place is so small that it only has 8 tables. There are many people who eat here and you have to wait for your turn.

They offer cheap and amazing noodle soup which you can pick and choose the meats off your choice.

It was hard communicating with the staffs because they speak poor English and we don't know any Chinese.

We ordered the staff recommended. We were waiting nervously for our food to arrived as we have no idea on what to expect.
Finally, our food...

The bowl of soup was worth the wait. The food was delicious and worth it for its very low price.

See our happy faces? The food is highly recommended!

Strolling Along the Avenue of Stars

We started our Hongkong tour with a stroll along the Avenue of Stars. It's only a short walk from our guesthouse.

On our way to Avenue of Stars, we passed by the Hongkong Museum of Arts and there was an exhibit going on.

Giant statues were displayed outside and we took our photo ops.

The exhibit was called "Ju Ming-Sculpting the Living World".

When you enter from Salisbury Road, you will be greeted by a 4.5M replica statue given to the winners of Hongkong Film Awards.

The 440M promenade honors Hongkong Cinematic History and its celebrities.  It is modelled from the Hollywood walk of fame. Famous celebrities have their own plaque with their hand prints.

Few of them I know that's why I looked for a name familiar to me....

There is also a bronze statue of the greatest martial artist of all time...Bruce Lee.

And then... we smelled something yummy.... shredded squid for HK$30. It's about Php 180.

At 8PM every night, you can watch the Hongkong's Symphony of Light.

Where to Stay in Hongkong: Golden Crown Guesthouse

I always checked the reviews in Tripadvidor before booking our accomodations. That's why we ended at Golden Crown Guesthouse.

Back in 2007, when i first visited Hongkong, we stayed at Guangdong Guesthouse located at the infamous Chungking Mansions. Back then, the reputation of Chungking is not that good for some tourist. I was scared whenever I enter the building and elevators because of some not so good looking men outside selling various items. Their elevators where so small that can accommodate only 7 persons. I don't want my mother to experience that and I looked for another guesthouse. But I heard Chungking is different now.

I booked at Golden Crown Guesthouse located in 5th Floor, Golden Crown Court, Nathan Road. It practically accessible to everywhere because it's just next door from exit A2 Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station.

The reception is quite small and we just waited for our turn at the small hallway. The staff/owner in duty doesn't speak well in English. Good thing one of the staff is a Filipina. They also have a strong free wifi.

Their rooms are newly renovated and the bed is so soft but the size were quite small.

The bathroom in our room was clean. But the space between the toilet bowl and the shower area was so narrow.

The guesthouse also provided unlimited drinking water (hot and cold) in the hallway and clean towels & linen everyday. Another nice thing about this guesthouse is that they have a available discounted tickets for theme parks and other attractions in Hongkong. They even sell ferry tickets to Macau. But they only accepts cash as payment.

They also have universal adaptors in the rooms.

We had a nice experience with this guesthouse, we'll surely stay here the next time we visit Hongkong.

Please see the guesthouse website for updated price of rooms.

5D/4N Hongkong Getaway Itinerary

Last November, I was lucky to grab Cebu Pacific's seat sale from Clark to Hongkong.

The newly renovated DMIA awed me. Ang ganda. Bago ang tiles. Mas madami ng check-in counters. I would not mind paying the 550 terminal fee provided the services remains as it is.

The procedure remains the same. After checking-in and paying the travel tax and terminal fee, fill-up the embarkation card. Bring your own ballpen as you will still need to fill up something inside the plane. Then proceed to clear the immigration and pre-departure area.

Boarding time is 6:35am and we left DMIA at exactly 7:05am as scheduled. After 2 hours, we finally reached Hongkong International Airport. After clearing the immigration we got our bags and bought the octopus card. Hongkong uses octopus cards as form of payment for transportation and also can be use at different establishments. This card is sold for HK$150 with an initial value of HK$100. The HK$50 is refundable upon returning the card. They only accepts cash at the airport.

We did not take the airport express train because of limited budget. It cost HK$90. We took the bus A21 going to city for HK$33.

Paglabas ng airport, sinalubong kami ng lamig. Malamig na panahon ang nadatnan namin. Good thing we searched the weather before going to HK kaya nakapaghanda kami sa damit.

1 hour ang duration ng biyahe ng bus mula airport hanggang sa Nathan Road where our hotel was located. We checked-in and took our meals and started exploring Hongkong.
