Cebu City Walking Tour (2 of 3)

A block away from the Basilica is the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral. It is the ecclesiastical seat of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Cebu. It is located in P. Burgos Street. It was elevated as a metropolitan archdiocese on April 28, 1934 with the dioceses of Dumaguete, Maasin, Tagbilaran, and Talibon as suffragans.

I was surprise to see the interior of the Cathedral. I was awed. The altar is so beautiful! Parang lobby ng hotel. At the altar, you can see the Crucified Christ between San Lorenzo Ruiz de Manila, the first Filipino Saint and Blessed Pedro Calungsod on October 21, 2012, making him the country’s second Catholic saint. The retablo is decorated with warm colors of gold and yellow.

After saying our prayers, our next stop is the Heritage of Cebu Monument passing by the Cebu Cathedral Museum. Again, we didn't visit the museum.

Walking towards the Heritage of Cebu, passing Mabini Street until we found Sikatuna Street corner Colon. From here you can already see a huge statue in a shape of a ship.

 So tired!

The Heritage of Cebu Monument was built by National Artist, Edgardo Castrillo. It was opened to the public on December 8, 2000. It depicts historical events and monuments.

Si AJ ay may lobo, lumipad sa langit.

From the Heritage of Cebu you can already see the Yap-Sandiego Ancestral House. It is one of the oldest house in the Philippines. It was built in the late 17th century. We didn't go inside because it looks creepy! There is an entrance fee of P50.00. Outside you can see what's inside the house.

Yap-Sandiego Ancestral House
Address: #155 Mabini corner Lopez Jaena Streets, 6000 Cebu, Philippines

After taking pictures outside the house, we were looking for street sign going to Casa Gorordo. A friendly buko juice vendor pointed the right direction.

CASA GORORDO MUSEUM - Located in Lopez Jaena Street, it is the home of the first Filipino Bishop of Cebu - Juan Gorordo (1862-1934). A tour inside this residence is a brief journey into a Filipino lifestyle in a particular period between 1860 to 1920. The place presently features noted paintings, museum relics, a courtyard, antique household items and furniture.
